It wasn't just a project; it was a privilege. Using cutting-edge technology to glorify an exceptionally important historical event, mentioned by Obama's family and Will Smith among others, was a blast.
March on Washington is a site dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's monumental "I Have a Dream" speech, built using HTML5 technologies together with WebRTC, Web Audio, and the Web Speech API. It serves as a hub for exploring historical audio recordings, videos, and photos from the event which occurred in 1963. The platform encourages audience participation, hosting a gallery of individuals' personal interpretations of the speech, open for everyone to contribute.
As contributions grow, the speech by Martin Luther King becomes interlinked with the voices, documentation, videos, and so forth of countless others. The intent behind the technology used here is to create a seamless user experience, such that the technical aspects recede into the background, allowing users to concentrate on the speech itself. A notable feature is the ability for users to record their voices directly in the browser without any need for plug-ins, enabled by standard privacy authentication — this makes for a remarkably smooth and organic experience.
